Location, Location, Location

31 Oct Location, Location, Location

MTA recently attracted a client who was located in a large Canadian city but moved to Winnipeg. A key phrase in the decision was that after a small project, the client realized that they could get 300% the production, at 80% the cost and 10% the headache in Winnipeg versus their other location. Sometimes the temptation is to think that the smaller cities cannot compete against the larger ones. But that’s just laziness talking. Malcom Gladwell underscores this point in his book David vs, Goliath. The lesson I learn from the experience and the book is pick where your strengths are and compete on those. We can compete on being nimble and coordinated as a region. And skilled, hardworking people are always an important asset. The message to this post therefore is don’t be defeatist. Anyone wanting to run an incubator or accelerator is already facing long odds. So by your nature you already want to win where others say you will fail. Don’t let location dissuade you from that path.
